CSO 01 - History and Traditions

CSO 01-001 AWARDS AND HONOURS

Derivation – This standing order is derived from the traditions of 2313 South Alberta Light Horse (Kiwanis) Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps.

Aim – The aim of this order is to provide regularity in the honours and awards available to members of 2313 South Alberta Light Horse (Kiwanis) Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps; and to formalize a procedure for selection for awards handed out by the

Responsibility for Action

  • Commanding Officer (CO) – The Commanding Officer is the final authority on the assignment of, and procedure for, all awards and honours;
  • Training Officer – (Trg O) The Training Officer is the normal recommending authority for all awards and honours within the Corps;
  • Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) – The RSM is responsible for advising the CO and Trg O on awards and honours for all NCOs and cadets;
  • All Officers – All officers will provide recommendations to the CO through awards and honours conferences as to deserving candidates for awards and honours; and
  • All NCOs – All NCOs may provide recommendations to the CO through memoranda as to deserving candidates for awards and honours.

Corps Honours and Awards Criteria – Following are the criteria for honours and awards:

Eligibility: All cadets in the Corps having trained with the South Alberta Pipes & Drums in the current training year.

Criteria: Be selected by the Commanding Officer on the advice of the corps officers and NCOs, taking into special account the advice of the Team Coach, as the most proficient overall candidate among eligible cadets.

Eligibility: All cadets in the Corps classified as a Junior in accordance with the CCMBCS rulebook, and having competed in the Cadets Canada Biathlon Competition Series in the current training year within said category.

Criteria: Be the cadet among eligible cadets with the highest score at the competition level.

Eligibility: All cadets in the Corps classified as a Senior in accordance with the CCMBCS rulebook, and having competed in the Cadets Canada Biathlon Competition Series in the current training year within said category.

Criteria: Be the cadet among eligible cadets with the highest score at the competition level.

Eligibility: All cadets in the Corps having competed with the Corps Drill Team in the current training year.

Criteria:

Demonstrate a high standard of dress, drill, and deportment; and

Be selected by the Commanding Officer on the advice of the corps officers and NCOs, taking into special account the advice of the Team Coach, as the most proficient overall candidate among eligible cadets.

Eligibility: All cadets in the Corps classified as a Junior in accordance with the CCMMCS rulebook, and having competed in the Cadets Canada Markmanship Competition Series in the current training year within said category.

Criteria: Be the cadet among eligible cadets with the highest score at the competition level.

Eligibility: All cadets in the Corps classified as a Senior in accordance with the CCMMCS rulebook, and having competed in the Cadets Canada Markmanship Competition Series in the current training year within said category.

Criteria: Be the cadet among eligible cadets with the highest score at the competition level.

Eligibility: All cadets who have completed the Green and/or Red Star course at an ACR other than the ACR of the current training year; and

Criteria: Be selected by the Commanding Officer on the advice of corps officers and NCOs as the cadet to have shown the most personal improvement among eligible cadets in the current training year.

Eligibility:

All cadets who have joined the Corps before 15 February of the current training year and completed the Green Star training programme within the current training year; and

Have participated in a minimum of 90% of mandatory training over the current training year;

Criteria: Be selected by the Commanding Officer on the advice of the corps officers and NCOs, taking into special account the advice of the Course Officer, as the most proficient overall candidate among eligible cadets.

Eligibility:

All cadets who have joined the Corps before 15 February of the current training year and completed the Red Star training programme within the current training year; and

Have participated in a minimum of 90% of mandatory training over the current training year;

Criteria: Be selected by the Commanding Officer on the advice of the corps officers and NCOs, taking into special account the advice of the Course Officer, as the most proficient overall candidate among eligible cadets.
