FIELD TRAINING EXERCISES (FTXs)

Preparing for the field
REGISTRATION NOW OPEN  Submit your registration at the bottom of this page.

OVERVIEW

2313 RCACC currently participates in 3 main Field Training Exercises per training year. These dates are general.

October: EX Bivouac Bison - This FTX is to introduce cadets to the outdoors, develop survival skill, and provide leadership opportunities in a practical setting.

February: EX Arctic Antelope - This FTX is a Cold Weather Adventure FTX with a focus on teamwork. Cadets will typically have to snowshoe their gear to the site in toboggans, set up tents as a team in the dark, and take care of each other to ensure everyone is comfortable. Also on this weekend, we do some recreational tobogganing and build snow quinzees.

April: EX Pronghorn Pointer - This exercise is a navigation and trekking ftx, with a focus on self-management while navigating to their next bivouac site, all while carrying their own gear in rucksacks.

TIMINGS

These timings can vary from FTX to FTX, but as a general rule, this is what you can expect:

Drop off @ Patterson Armoury: Friday, 1730 hrs

Pick up @ Patterson Armoury: Sunday, 1500 hrs

MEALS

Meals will be provided from breakfast Saturday until lunch on Sunday.

Please ensure your cadet has eaten supper before arriving at the Armoury Friday evening.

KIT LIST

Packing for an exercise is important. You want to have the right gear to be safe and comfortable.

Review the kit list a few weeks before the FTX. Make sure you have everything you need before you start packing. If you are unsure about something, speak to your Chain of Command (your Master Corporal / Sergeant / Warrant Officer).

Cadets will need to bring their kit to cadets on the Thursday prior for a kit check. Kit will be left securely overnight at the Armoury.

This kit list is a guide of what to bring for the upcoming exercise. Always check the weather forecast before packing AND before leaving your house. This kit list includes what you should already be wearing.

Cadets will be temporarily issued a rucksack, sleeping bag and liner, and air mattress.
