CSO 01 - History and Traditions

CSO 01-002 ACCOUTREMENTS AND ENTITLEMENTS BY RANK

Derivation – This standing order is derived from the traditions of 2313 South Alberta Light Horse (Kiwanis) Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps.

Aim – The aim of this order is to provide regularity in the accoutrements and entitlements by rank within 2313 South Alberta Light Horse (Kiwanis) Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps.

Responsibility for Action

  • Commanding Officer (CO) – The Commanding Officer shall be the final authority on the assignment of rank and shall ensure that entitlements by rank are consistent;
  • Supply Officer – (Sup O) The Supply Officer shall procure, maintain, and issue the proper accoutrements by rank;
  • Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) – The RSM shall be responsible for ensuring that all NCOs are receiving and wearing the appropriate accoutrements and entitlements by rank.

Requirement to Wear – All accoutrements issued by the corps comprise a part of the uniform and shall be worn/carried at all times when in uniform, subject to the direction of the Regimental Sergeant Major. Notwithstanding, funding for accoutrements may be drawn from either the individual so entitled or from Sponsoring Committee funds, and in no case shall a cadet be compelled to fund any accoutrement. A cadet may choose not to wear/carry any accoutrement that is not funded by the corps.

Accoutrements by Rank – The following accoutrements shall be issued and worn as available, in a cumulative fashion as directed by the RSM:

  • The South Alberta Light Horse shoulder flash; and
  • The Army Cadet cap badge.
  • No additional accoutrements authorized.
  • The South Alberta Light Horse cap brass (replaces the Army Cadet Cap badge).
  • Ascot (This item requires a $15 refundable deposit, refunded upon return of ascot).
  • Lanyard; and
  • Drill Cane (At discretion of CO/RSM by appointment).
  • Brass Tunic Buttons; and
  • Drill Cane.
  • Pace Stick (At discretion of CO/RSM).
  • CF Tunic with cadet distinguishers (At discretion of CO); and
  • Pace Stick.

Positive Entitlements by Rank – Note that the following entitlements are positive; negative entitlements are contained in order 002 – 006 Discipline.

  • Entitlement to be addressed by rank; and
  • Entitlement to provide direction to subordinates.
  • Entitlement to be addressed by rank; and
  • Entitlement to provide direction to subordinates.
  • Entitlement to be  addressed by rank;
  • Entitlement to inclusion in all Troop level orders groups; and
  • Entitlement to provide direction to subordinates.
  • Entitlement to be addressed by rank;
  • Entitlement to provide direction to subordinates;
  • Entitlement to inclusion in all Troop level orders groups; and
  • Entitlement to a marker or supernumerary position on parade.
  • Entitlement to be addressed by rank;
  • Entitlement to provide direction to subordinates;
  • Entitlement to inclusion in all Squadron and Troop level orders groups;
  • Entitlement to a command or supernumerary position on parade; and
  • Entitlement to carry a drill cane on all occasions when in CF dress or FTU.
  • Entitlement to be addressed by rank, as Sir/Ma’am by subordinates, or as Mister/Miss by Civilian Instructors, True Volunteers, Subordinate Officers and Subalterns;
  • Entitlement to provide direction to subordinates;
  • Entitlement to inclusion in all Corps and Squadron level orders groups;
  • Entitlement to a minimum Squadron Sergeant Major position (SSM, DSM, RQMS, RQMSI, RSM)
  • Entitlement to a command or supernumerary position on parade; and
  • Entitlement to carry a drill cane on all occasions when in CF dress or FTU.
  • Entitlement to address by rank, as Sir/Ma’am by subordinates, or as Mister/Miss by Civilian Instructors, True Volunteers, Subordinate Officers and Subalterns;
  • Entitlement to provide direction to subordinates;
  • Entitlement to inclusion in all Corps level orders groups;
  • Entitlement to a minimum Regimental position (RSM, RQMS, RQMSI, DSM);
  • Entitlement to make recommendations to the CO and DCO on all matters affecting cadet NCOs and cadets within the Corps;
  • Entitlement to a command or supernumerary position on parade; and
  • Entitlement to carry a pace stick on all occasions when in CF dress or FTU.
